Dragon Lights Reno 2026: A Local's Guide to the Lantern Festival
Updated October 2026
There's a moment every fall when Rancho San Rafael goes from quiet park to glowing dinosaur kingdom. If you've never walked Dragon Lights on a cold night with a hot chocolate in hand, this is your year.
When is Dragon Lights Reno 2026?
Dragon Lights runs nightly from October 2 through November 29, 2026. Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. through November 1, then 5 to 9 p.m. from November 2 to the end of the run.
Where is Dragon Lights held?
At the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden inside Rancho San Rafael Park, 1595 N. Virginia Street in Reno.
What's the 2026 theme?
This year's theme is "Many Worlds Aglow." For the first time, the walk moves through three worlds: wildlife of the African desert, the age of dinosaurs, and traditional Asian lanterns.
How long does it take to walk through?
The path is under a mile, but plan on 90 minutes or more. Kids will want every photo.
How do I get tickets?
Buy online at dragonlightsreno.org. Weeknights are less crowded and usually cheaper than weekends.
Local tips
Dress warmer than you think. Reno nights drop fast in November. Go on a weeknight after the first week of November, when it opens at 5 p.m., so little ones are home by bedtime. And if you love this side of town, the neighborhoods around Rancho San Rafael Park put trails, the arboretum and the university a few minutes from home.
